Being a citizen of Cabarrus County, I am appalled by what I see and hear coming from the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Department on a daily basis. For the past few years it has been one incident after another. The latest 3 incidents have finally gained enough attention and been so news worthy that citizens of not just Cabarrus County, but the country and world, finally want to know who is in charge at the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Department.
First, we learn of two deputies, one a lieutenant, who are charged with purchasing and possessing drugs.
Second, is the story of the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Department being unable to get a man down out of a tree, so they tased or attempted to tase him, causing his fall and leading to his immediate paralysis.
And third, we have poor Bella, the family pet, who unwillingly wanting to summit to police authority, non-aggressive and unarmed, was shot and killed because the deputies were overwhelmed with calls.
So as we stare from Church Street and Corban Avenue up at the newly constructed castle and dungeon, it begs the question..."Who in the hell is running this place?" Certainly not Sheriff D. Brad Riley who is never available to answer for his departments actions. Not long ago Sheriff Riley was quoted in the Independent Tribune as saying, his deputies are the alter-ego of the sheriff. Here, Sheriff Riley acknowledges that his deputies act on his behalf. This being the case, what now is Sheriff Riley responsible for? I understand that Sheriff Riley cannot be with all his officers, at all times, making all decisions for them. It is just not practical. However, Sheriff Riley is not like any other law enforcement department head. His office is unique and there are special laws giving him special powers. Therefore, it is imperative, that when he hires personnel that he gets it right. His hiring process should weed out officers who enjoy killing animals, hurting people and drugs. This task is charged to Sheriff Riley alone. He is the person Cabarrus County is electing as sheriff. I hope citizens of this county will take in consideration the job he is actually doing and not voting on behalf of whether or not he goes to your church, coaches your kids ball teams or went to high school with you. Be responsible voters and at least consider a change. The safety of Cabarrus County is in the voters hands.

I have noticed that Mr. Riley never holds a press conference where he stands before the community and explains what is going on in Cabarrus County. We don't know the crime problem. We don't know what happened with the man being tased out of a tree. We don't know what happened to the deputies arrested for drugs. Mr. Riley never tells us what is going on. There was a rumor a couple years ago about a wild party that got out of hand. He never told us what happened there and I bet the rumors are much worse and damaging to his agency's reputation that being a man and telling us what actually happened. He could actually do media conferences where he could talk about positive work his deputies are doing. It just seems that he is scared of the media and hides. HE NEVER STANDS UP FOR US!!! Looks like he only cares for Brad.

Also the Cabarrus Republican party is sitting on a ton of money that was left by a benevolent deceased Lady.. Peggy Haywood and not spending one dime of it on the Sheriffs race. And why is GOP Chair Justin Thibault allowing a former Cabarrus Democrat party Chair and Larry Kissell staff member Theirry Warnears to sit in monthly GOP meetings and taping them?
ReplyDeleteBeing relatively new to Cabarrus County and this area of North Carolina, we're not familiar with much that has been cited in the blob. Everything seems to be negative toward the sheriff's department. Has the sheriff accomplilshed any significant projects under his leadership? I understand the jail is something the county leaders are proud of as it nears completetion. What else had he accomplished?
ReplyDeleteThe jail was slipped in under the noses of the Taxpayer. The jail was budgeted in 2004 to be just 54 million dollars. To this day county staff is claiming the 54 million dollar price tag but a county commissioner has found it to be near 200 million dollars. All of this without telling the Cabarrus Taxpayer anything of the extravagant increase. There areseveral things that the Sheriff has accomplished....

3. Sneaking in a 54 million dollar jail expansion and increasing it over 200 million dollars.
4. Sex orgies deputies have been having as reported by the Independent Tribune last summer.
5. Dputies tazering a man in a tree then fell and is now a paraplegic. (lack of training)

ReplyDeleteAs the wife of a deputy, I can say this....the majority of the deputies hate Riley. I won't give him the respect by calling him sheriff because he doesn't deserve the job. He was a kiss up to a decent Sheriff when Canaday was in office. Canaday left midterm and GAVE the job to Riley. He in NO WAY earned it. He had no experience when he took over. He worked in the jail and on patrol. He had no investigation experience. He never worked CID (Criminal Investigation Department). He was never a detective. He never worked Vice or Narcotics. He never worked undercover or chased down the first drug dealers. He never even made captain. He went straight from nothing to Sheriff.

He has some really great deputies working there and they all but bound and gagged due to his poor leadership. When he does actually come to work he hides in his office. Point in case…..You haven’t seen him make the first public appearance in the pit bull shooting. He is usually in Raleigh or somewhere trying to make a name for himself. He wants some big political job with The North Carolina Sheriffs' Association when he is no longer the Cabarrus sheriff.
Riley forces his deputies to campaign for him. And trust me when I tell you……they don’t want to. It isn’t that he says they have to do it, but they all know he will make their work lives a living h-ll and they can kiss any promotions good-bye if they don’t do. He makes them wear shirts, go to events, put signs in their yards, and stickers on their cars. I could tell you stories about this man that would make your hair curl. I see some have already been mentioned….the girlfriend….oh yeah, on that…..he used to make other deputies drive him to her house so his car wouldn’t be there. His wife even tried to run over her with a car when she found out. Then there was Deputy Enoch that shot a beaver for no reason other than he is nuts and seriously needs to be evaluated. He also gave a guy one of his uniforms. That man then tried impersonating an officer and tried to accost a young girl at Concord Mills. I also understand Enoch has a lot of “seized” property at his home. Then there is the man that is parlayed because he was tased out of tree. Riley got up and said that the man jumped and tried to kill himself. It is my understanding from and EMT that he pulled the leads from the taser out of the man after he hit the ground. Why would you tase a man on the way down? You wouldn’t. He was tased and then fell. Riley flat out lied. You know that line about if their lips are moving they are probably lying? Well that fits Riley perfectly.
Just know this….Riley is out for himself. He doesn’t give a rats tail about anyone else. He only does things that suits his on agenda. So do all the deputies and their families a favor…… VOTE FOR DAVID GRAHAM!!! He is honorable man with an outstanding resume and track record. The deputies of this county work hard for is citizens…..it’s time to give back to them. Give them a real leader.

ReplyDeleteHe hasn't had anyone to run against him that any experience. The guy that ran 4 years ago dropped out and so there was no one running. But he dropped out so late his name was still on the ballot. The man still got 1/3 of the vote and he wasn't even still in the race. Says a lot when 1/3 of the voters chose a non-existent candidate over the current sheriff. Guess they were just making a point or it was a lot of wishful thinking.

This is the actual listing for the reason of termination. Riley had other officers, Parker and Waller applying with the Federal Air Marshall's and Degrace applying with the FBI. He begged them to stay but fired her. THIS IS SEXUAL DISCRIMINATION, NO WAY AROUND IT! She sued him and he quietly settles the suit out of court. What do you think of that lady supporters? Yeah, what a great guy! His commentary on this facebook page makes me sick.

If there is all this corruption or misconduct on behalf of elected or government officials here, where is the District Attorney? Why is the District Attorney not investigating, weighing in, or calling in the SBI? Can't the DA do that? It must not be that much to it then.

I’ll tell you why, because Roxanne and Riley are friends who look out for each other. Roxanne start an investigation into the misconducts of the sheriff’s office and Riley? Seriously? This county is blind to how things really work. Do you really thing Joe Biden would ever go to congress and say ‘how about investigating the President’. You are right about one thing. ReplyDeleteIf she is so scared she should know that the intelligent thing to do is have it documented. Neither Sheriff Riley, or his wife, could touch her then. She should be smart, not afraid. Most people already knows who she is, now she should protect herself. She should know that this thing is not going to go away. If she were to be harassed by this point, it would be obvious why in a civil court. If she stays quiet, she remains a target. If she tells trusted people and can actually prove her case, she is untouchable.

ReplyDeleteYour right Riley did use the sheriff's office for a headquarters. He had deputies doing campaign collections and deeds while being paid by the county and using county vehicles. You were able to contribute to his campaign fund at the sheriff's office to the sheriff's secretary.

ReplyDeleteI’m having a difficult time understanding how all this unethical and sometimes criminal behavior by the sheriff and his so called cronies can go unnoticed by so many people, if even a small part of it is true. There are so many systems of checks and balances built into our systems to prevent public corruption by a specific government agency or its employees. There are outside federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies with investigative powers. There are federal and state prosecutors. What about the local district court and superior court judges, and defense attorneys? The local media is a watch dog for misconduct by public officials, police, prosecutors, officers of the court, and so on. How can any of this take place and not one watchdog group or agency is doing anything about it? Come on! Makes for a good novel.

If you have real concerns (backed by proof) have the guts to face Sheriff Riley face to face and not hide behind your computer. As a deputy, I can assure you he has an open door policy and would welcome any concerns for our office. Next there are several places on this site that are not backed by truth and are gutless attacks on the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office as a whole. Attacking Sheriff Riley's family is total nonsense. I will not go any further on that, its uncalled for. Next Sheriff Riley had nothing to do with the jail project. The COUNTY had to build it because the old jail was overcrowded and the STATE made the COUNTY build it. If the COUNTY did not build it there would have been heavy fines to the tax payers. Sheriff Riley is only responsible for providing deputies and detention officers to staff it. One person posted they were a deputies' wife and stated "The majority of the deputies hate Riley." This is totally false. I have worked for the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office since 2000 and can tell you we love Sheriff Riley. Sheriff Riley started at the very bottom of the office and worked his way through the ranks and deserves more than anyone to be the Sheriff of this great county. I can also tell you Sheriff Riley has never forced anyone to campaign for him. We want to do it...I look forward to it. Also look at the way Sheriff Riley conducts business. You do not see any sites bashing his opponent and you never hear Sheriff Riley talking negatively about the opposition. Sheriff Riley just states the facts and the accomplishments of the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office. He certainly does not show up outside of the mansion. As a deputy…please, what do others, “as deputies’ with contrary opinions say to you or the sheriff? ReplyDeletePhil Patterson has been the 'unsung' hero of the sheriff's officer for 25 years. If Canaday would have had his way, Patterson would have been Chief 10 years ago. Always crapped upon by the other Captains and Chief, he has never done anything but do his job to the best of his ability and gained years of friendship. At what cost? To be belittled by Riley, Hunt, Furr and anyone else all ego consumed. Mr. Patterson, we who know, respect you immensely.

ReplyDeleteI heard that the SBI is talking to some of the deputies that have left the Sheriff's Department in the last 6 years and getting their stories to what went on. From what I've heard, a case against Riley is about to surface. Everyone watch the news and newspapers for the show. It's not going to be pretty.
ReplyDeleteAnyone hear about a deputy that tased a buddy at the fire department while he was asleep? The deputies last name is Joyner and he still works as a deputy. You know why no one heard about this? Because Brad Riley kept it quiet and covered it up! What great leadership skills he has. His work day consists of covering for his deputies and looking for a place to hide. If anyone really needs him, look under his desk. You'll find him in the fetal position...crying.

Riley worked his way through the ranks, that’s funny. Someone mentioned it earlier. I would love to see his arrest stats, list of investigations or even a search warrant that he has done. I don’t blame you for trying to protect your job. I have attended a meeting where David Graham stated that the deputies are hard workers and seem to try to do the right thing, but it s Riley's leadership that is what’s in question. I would agree. I am interested in this investigation that was mentioned, sounds interesting. Well, Mr. Deputy I believe you will still have a job when Graham wins if you are truly want to work for the citizens of this county. I would distance myself from taser incident, dog incident, and Enoch, aka: Beaver Dundee.

The memo came out from the higher ups cancelling day off and vacations and everyone has to work the the 4 of July in Harrisburg. It don't matter if you had plans on your day off or deposits on vacations. Tough it up and support the sheriff. Lose your money. It's all about the sheriff and wasting tax payers money.

There are reasons behind everything and we all may not know what they are, but why continue to bash the sheriff for some of these things that he is not in control of. The hiring of some idiots occur at every dept. in our nation and there is no way around that so you blame him? You can't. This whole dog shooting is a joke also. I am sympathetic about animals, but it is what it is. We all weren't there to see how the situation went down, so why bash him for that? Of course all of the evidence has come out and it was found to be no wrong doing by the deputy or dept. What more do you want? Whatever way it would have went, no one wins and you can't please everyone. Now all of this party that the deputies were in, is that the sheriff's fault? Everyone is an adult and they know what is right and wrong and did the sheriff not get rid of the one's that were in the wrong? It doesn't matter how he got into office because he continued to get votes and win elections so if you are all that disgruntled about him, don't vote for him. Cabarrus County has come a long way from 10-15 years ago, just as a whole dept. and the sheriff has done alot of good things to improve the dept and the county. Martha told Pepe and Pepe told Donna and Donna told Tim and Tim told Jenny and Jenny told me baby...so you know its true! I mean come on people. You are all obviously adults with enough sense to type your thoughts out with a keyboard. No matter how "worser" they are. Each and every one of you are entitled to your opinion, I mean that's what blogs such as this are for, but come on! To set out such accusations toward Sheriff Riley about the actions of his Deputies without having a clue other than what you heard from a third party is juvenile to say the least. Deputies are human beings and do make mistakes. But are there that many mistakes? Let's look at the two most popular incidents on this site. "Man tazered out of tree": The guy was eight feet off the ground in a treestand with a safety bar that swivels around him. He was yeilding a knife telling the officers he would kill them if they came up the treestand. He starts cutting himself with said knife. Who in their right mind is climbing the treestand with their head and neck exposed to a pissed off man with a knife already cutting himself and threatening all those around him. The tazer was used, but missed. Then he proceeds to raise the safety bar and jump out onto the ground, injuring himself. Yep! You all nailed that one! Bad Deputy! Then you have Bella. I for one am very passionate toward pets and do sympathize for the childern of the family, but come on people! You have a neighborhood being terrorized by a large breed of dog that is known for their aggression. A mother had to step between the dog and her child while the dog displayed aggressiveness toward them while they were trapped in their own yard. The dog was notrious for breaking out of the fence that was obvisouly not equipped to contain her. Officers from two agencies spent well over an hour attemting to secure the dog. After numerous failed attempts to secure a large aggressive dog, the animal control officer made a decision to put the dog down to prevent the dog from biting a human being. Then the so called media gets involved and shows about five seconds of a twenty minute video that was secretly taped.
ReplyDeletecontinued...The dogs owner wouldn't release the entire video to the Sheriff's Office. Any guesses why? What happened to all the Youtube postings of your dog breaking down your fence Mr. Daniels? They seem to have been deleted. Wanna know why Sheriff riley never provided a press conference? Because the media refused to air one! That's right! Sheriff Riley tried, but truth obviously does not equal ratings, so he was denied air time. Any one of you can actually pick up your telephone like I did and speak to Sheriff Riley or Chief Hunt and they'll tell you exactly what occured, then you can decide for yourself. If any of you don't already know, the media is interested in ratings, not actual events. If David Graham is such a great leader, why is it that he signed a petition to fire the Deputy that made a decision that he believed may have saved a child or even adult from injury or death? And he signed this based on hearsay rumors all the while seeking votes in the upcoming election. Doesn't sound like the kind of man I would want running my business. Do you want someone like that behind the Deputies of this County that are protecting you and your loved ones? The CMPD officers I have spoken to about Mr. Graham tell me that he is a snake and does not stand up for those under him. There again, this is only what I have been told from some of those who worked for him. His qualifications look good on paper, but has anyone ever lived in Mecklenburg County tried to deal with CMPD? It's a nightmare! Is this how Cabarrus County will be if he is elected? At least you can actually speak to a living- breathing human being or even have one come to your residence if you so choose here in Cabarrus County. I'm not trying to be negative, just some concerns I have. The facts are Sheriff Riley has ran a great agency during his time in office. He has continued to provide exceptional service to the citizens of this county while operating on a limited budget and with an under staffed agency. When most people in his position would point the blame in another direction, he made best with what resources he had available to get the job done. And he does have the support of the majority of his Deputies. Why don't you try asking a few of them? Like all businesses and agencies, there are those few disgruntled employees that will complain about winning the lottery. They are like a virus and try to spread their infection to anyone close enough to listen. Try asking a few when you see them out somewhere, odds are they will speak very positively about Sheriff Riley and their agency. When you look at Sheriff Riley, the positive things he has done for this county vastly outweigh the negatives. I believe he has done an excellent job as our Sheriff and until some REAL proof comes out that exposes some REAL negligence, he has my vote.

People want to see drama and others fall because thats what gets them through their lives, well you wont prosper from any of it and everyones opinion matters to themselves and they have that right, however, they get so caught up in believing their own opinions that they forget to focus on what has really been happening. So with that being said, the sheriff gets my vote also. You can check at any other agency in the world and they all have this same stuff going on and some are true and some are not true but thats the way it is. If you think the sheriff's office has got issues, you want a man in office who is coming from the most controversial dept. in the state with issues that make the Cabarrus Sheriff's office look like childs play. And you talk about this dog thing. You have a owner who could care less about securing his dog in a fence in which resulted in his demise and then he gets mad at animal control after he just threatened the person that called it in. The bella owner has all of you brainwashed! He has no job and nothing else to do except beg for money for justice for bella his dog. How many dogs stay alive after attacking children in the world or how many are put to sleep on a daily basis in the world and this guy wants to cry about his dog when he was the one indeed that is the negligent owner? Come on people, wake up. The majority of you I'm sure are honest hard working citizens of Cabarrus County and you let one dog owner act like he's PETA? This guy is a con artist to get donations to help pay for legal bills. Is anyone paying for any legal bills that you might occur. Think about all of this and then of course you got Graham who takes sides with these people to get votes. Review all of the facts. This justice for bella wants you to come out and support them, make sure you come out to his next court date and support too when he is found guilty!!! ReplyDeleteI want to throw my 2 cents worth in since thats about all the sheriff is worth. I have lived in Cabarrus County my entire life. A while back, I applied for a gun permit to buy a gun. I was turned down by the sheriffs office for the permit. They told me since I have a misdemeanor arrest a long time ago, they could not give me a permit. I was not convicted of anything. Check the court records for the sheriff. He also has been charged with a misdemeanor for assaulting someone years ago. It was all there. But he carries a gun and is the sheriff. What is the difference. Its all who you are around here and you have to be his buddy to get anything.

ReplyDeleteFYI. The CMPD was regarded as one of the top 10 police forces in the nation until Rodney Monroe took over. Quoted by a current CMPD officer, "a few years ago you could take my resume to any other city in the nation and get hired". Rodney Monroe destroyed that police department. He is very similar to Brad Riley, they are like two peas in a pod actually. David Graham was one of the Deputy Chiefs that did not bow down to King Rodney, he did not get caught up in the drama or unethical activity, or ass kissing and cronyism that Rodney Monroe brought to Charlotte. It only takes one bad apple to ruin a basket...and Monroe and Riley are completely rotten. Graham served his 30 years and retired, regarded as one of the most respectable officer to ever work for Charlotte. The claims being made against Graham are completely out of touch with reality. Where as the claims being made toward Riley actually have truth behind them. And for the Deputy on here defending Riley, I would be careful what you wish for. If you want evidence, it might just surface.....

Next week we are going to put up signs. Then we will say great things about me and the office and how happy you and me and all of us are.” If the deputy says okay. This is called campaigning. That is called ‘hooray for our side.’ If someone writes a blog like Sharon Wentworth it is called ‘weak attempt’. No way, Ms. Wentworth is campaigning, the same as the Sheriff. Most of his deputies transported him to and from the house of the woman he was seeing. What a joke. A monkey with a wrench could do a better job at running the Sheriff's Department. At least you'd be able to find him. Riley is double dipping. Being paid for being sheriff while he is interviewing for other jobs in law enforcement.

Why...because that's where he'd prefer they go. His excuse...because his deputies are there as resource officers and could protect them if something was to happen. ReplyDeleteI bet Riley is looking for a new job. The light at the end of the tunnel for him is probably looking very small as the darkness closes in. The fact that he is looking for a job while being sheriff is nothing new. He has been doing that for years. He was hoping to go to Washington, DC with Ex-Sheriff Pendergraph, but we know how that turned out. The funny thing is when a female deputy tried to do the same thing, he fired her. Then the county had to pay her a large sum of money, or should I say we the tax payers had to pay her.
Riley preaches that he is fair and stickler for the rules, but this only applies to the deputies, not the SHERIFF himself. Riley, during one of your recent, famous, mandatory departmental meetings about following the rules and regulations you said “if you’re not happy find a job elsewhere.” Riley you should be fired for not following your on demands that you have made of your employees. Using your position to get your kids in the school of your choice, intimidating your employees and people that might have things to say about you that you don’t approve of. The fact that you are looking for another job must mean you’re not happy here, why don’t you just leave. That’s what you would want one of your deputies do. What about having an affair? I believe you quoted scripture about that. Isn’t that being a hypocrite?
Back to the writer that could careless as long as the county is safe, you sound like a politician as well. Since it appears that maybe you might work at the sheriff’s office, you might think about finding another job where you do care about what happens. That everyone is treated the same and you get promoted on your qualifications, not who you know or how much money you contribute to a campaign.
Riley you cannot run an office this way. Using your position, tax dollars and county equipment to further your own agenda, this is not acceptable. You know what you have done. You can get any of your loyal FEW to attempt to defend you, but the ones of us that have been around you for all these years know the truth. It appears that it has come time to pay the piper and the citizens of this county will know. I hope your deputies and leaders that do try to do the right thing do not get caught up in the quick sand with you. Don’t shove them under to keep your head above to breath. You having to qualify your comment that you do not work at the sheriff’s office and the language that you use shows that you do indeed work there. The comments that you have tried to disqualify as being accusations must be true as well. The reason I believe this to be true is your erratic, emotional, name calling and negative comments. This shows that you are feeling the pressure and that you have no way to defend yourself of the fact the comments are true. Based on these facts you are very close to the sheriff, not just a concerned citizen. Your comments are spoken with knowledge of the sheriff himself.

This will give him the chance to convince the citizens of the county and myself that he is the man for the job. I’ve lost a great deal of respect and trust for Riley. I welcome the opportunity for Riley to change my mind. I believe the sheriff’s office is a great place to work, but you have to have the right leadership. You have to earn respect .

Would you want your skeletons posted all over the internet? I doubt it. I am sure Sheriff Riley has done things he is not proud of and made difficult decisions; he has never claimed to be God. What is easily forgotten is he is a son, a husband, a brother and most important, a father. You do not realize how your harsh words can affect this man’s family. As I get older, I have realized adults are more judgmental than kids. I have seen many biblical references made in this blog. Do you really feel that you are acting like Christians? It is not our place to judge. It is our place to forgive just like we have been forgiven. Politics suck and no matter who you deal with, it always turns nasty during election years. This is the only way people know how to win. Sheriff Riley, I commend you for not letting yourself get caught up in this immature political nonsense. Keep your head up! And to the Riley family, my thoughts and prayers are with you!
To the last person writing on the blog...He doesn't have 2 innocent children; he has 3; the last one he doesn't take care of or support. How Christianly is that? A love child out of wedlock is still an innocent child. Doesn't she have the right to be acknowledged? Go figure.
ReplyDeleteHere is the kicker…..Riley decided he wanted to be sheriff, it wasn’t like he wasn’t given a choice. At that point he gave up any rights to privacy. He became a public figure. Yeah I agree…politics stink. But….he chose that life and it comes with a price. You talk about he is a father, son, blah blah, blah and he made mistakes just like everybody else. The difference is that we aren’t running for Sherriff. It isn’t like any of these accusations are news to him. He knew there was a chance that all this would come out at some point. He put his career before his family, his kids, his wife, and his friends. If they were so important to him A) he wouldn’t have done those things B) he wouldn’t put himself in a position where his every move is under a microscope. So by making that choice he opened himself up to any and all criticism.
ReplyDeleteYou can be on his band wagon all you want. I don’t know or care to know about his personal life. All I am concerned with is this county I live in and the people who lead it. At the end of the day it doesn’t matter how many kids he has or what he did to create them. The important thing is his leadership skills. And from what I read….that appears to be lacking. Of course any disgruntled employee is going to post all they know. Of course they would like to damage his reputation. But just as with any rumor….there is usually some truth to it. It had to start somewhere. So the fact that employees past and present are obviously posting here is a good thing. You are seeing both sides to this. Some employees love him and some hate him. And it sounds like a lot of current employees are fearful to be public with their opinions. To me…..THAT SPEAKS VOLUMES in itself.
Yes, I would like proof of all these accusations as much as the next person. The election is months away. I bet that we will be seeing a lot more on these topics. I welcome that. I would love more than anything to see a debate where the public could ask questions of the candidates. The sheriff does still answer to the citizens doesn’t he? I think we should be able to ask him to defend himself on all these issues in a public forum.
So come on Riley and Graham…..are you ready to answer to the people? Can you defend your decisions and prove that all the stuff listed in this blog is in fact a lie? We the people…..want to know.
A debate for the position of Sheriff between Brad Riley and David Graham? Sounds like the most logical thing I've heard of in a long time. And it should be televised! Even if it's on the local education channel. Let us ask Graham questions and get answers, and for once, (If he'd show up), Brad Riley could answer these questions and get it behind him. One is safely contained, the other, after an hour, is put down because it could not be contained and had showed aggression. Deputy Austin was right, Bella never showed aggression in his presence. He used the testimony of three (3) officers of the law to ascertain what was going on. They had been there for an hour and knew what had been happening. Mr. Daniels states "Deputy Austin admits Bella was not aggressive". Your right Mr. Daniels! Now Mr.Daniels, go ask Deputy Samples and the two Concord Police Officers if Bella was aggressive. Another question Mr. Daniels, has there been another dog attack in your neighborhood since this incident? What breed was involved? Your love affair with the media Mr. Daniels is the base root of your "perceived" problem. How many labrador attacks have been broadcast on the news or printed in the paper?
- I ask that anyone who feels they were treated unfairly by Sheriff Riley while employed at the Sheriff's Office, come down and sign a waiver releasing your personnel file to the public and let the public decide if you were treated unfairly or not.
Sheriff Riley and David Graham are both good men. David Graham had issues with officers during his tenure at CMPD (before and after Rodney Monroe). This does not mean Mr.Graham is a bad supervisor, it means that people are people and they have human flaws. Both men cannot predict what behavior will be exhibited by men and women under their command. They do the best job they can to ensure good people are put into these jobs.
Drop the unsubstantiated rhetoric and let these two candidates focus on real issues. After the issues are discussed, the people will decide who is the best candidate. To bring up these claims against Sheriff Riley without proof is despicable. He has a wife and kids who do not deserve to hear their father's name dragged through the dirt over unsubstantiated claims.

ReplyDeleteDavid Graham did sign the Justice for Bella petition! He signed it the day of the press conference when he was sitting with this group of fanatics! Sheriff Riley purposely did not go to the press conference because he did not want the appearance of trying to sway the investigation his way. Instead he was meeting with the officers involved in the situation to notify them of the investigation's findings. Sheriff Riley is good to his deputies as well as to the citizens of this county. Ric Starnes, Tim Parker, etc. you all have mental issues obviously that need to be evaluated. Sheriff Riley will win in November and the crazies will have to find another cause to jump on.

ReplyDeleteI think the GOP is backing all its candidates. It’s obvious that a small number are trying to spread rumors and smear mud that has nothing to do with issues. I don’t know who wore whose shirt when or who had what booth where. That is irrelevant and no one cares. This blog is turning into a mudslinging campaign obviously between a couple people and getting off the issues. Get back on track with the issues, or shut it down.
ReplyDeleteI too would like to see a debate. As in most hiring processes for a CEO, chief, or any other head for an organization, usually there is a background check. Unfortunately in politics that is not the case. There is no company hired to conduct candidate searches for sheriffs or any other political office. Any debate has to include an opportunity for the public to ask each candidate questions about their background. A lot of issues are hanging out there and questions need answers! The public needs to have a chance to clear up any of the issues on their minds including past decisions, background/skeletons, or anything else on their minds. Let’s move on!

Jobs are short, even police/deputies jobs. And if there is an opening with another agency, you have to start over at the bottom of the ladder. Most times it is a substantial cut in pay and they lose a lot of benefits related to retirement if they change agencies. Not to mention the fact that when you apply for a job, they do check references. Hello??!! Who do you think they are going to call? They will call the Sheriff. As already PROVEN by the lawsuit the county paid out, if you even apply elsewhere, Riley will fire you or make your work life a living hell (as if it isn’t already). I know what you are going to say, they should quit first then look for a job. It takes months to go through the interview and evaluation process. Most families in this economy can’t take a hit like that. And if it makes Riley mad that you quit he calls all the local agencies and black balls you.

But to prove it would give away my husband’s identity and probably get him and another deputy fired. For that matter, pretty much everything listed in this blog CAN BE PROVEN. But it would come at a price. People would lose their jobs. If they get fired it is nearly impossible to get on with another agency. Riley knows this and uses it in his favor. So don’t assume that just because there aren’t pictures in the paper or put up on this site that the accusations are rumors. There just isn’t a way to prove it without Riley knowing who did it…..at least not yet.
You make is sound like it is so easy to say no when Riley “asks” you (and I use that word with thick sarcasm) to hand out flyers or go to a voting poll and talk him up. These guys aren’t stupid. They know if they don’t do what he asks there will be no raises, no promotions, and Riley will eventually find a way to come down on them. Working at the department isn’t like a regular job. They don’t have as many rights as say a city cop. Riley can just decide he doesn’t want to swear them in for another year and they are tossed out on the street. There is no review board and no chance of a fair shake.
You also make it sound like these guys don’t like their jobs or the county they work for. That is a completely false notion. My husband loves the work he does and the county he lives and works in. This is where he WANTS to work. The administration is where the problem comes in. There are a lot of really good deputies in Cabarrus County. I dare say most of them have tons more actual police work type experience than Riley. This county needs an experienced Police/Deputy at the helm, not a politician. The deputies want someone they can respect for their work experience, knowledge, AND personal accomplishments. They don’t have that now.
So you might see some deputies out there with signs in their yards, stickers on their cars, or handing out flyers. But the public needs to understand, it isn’t a choice, not if they want to keep their jobs. Now I know there are some deputies that like Riley. They just haven’t crossed him yet or they have kissed his butt to get the point that they are part of the “good old boys club”. Riley has run off quite a few good deputies and the county has suffered for it. My husband is a damn fine deputy. He has never had cross words with Riley. They are not on the outs. He has never had a bad review. My husband just knows that Cabarrus County now has a much better option in David Graham. It comes down to experience and who has the better credentials and leadership ability. DAVID GRAHAM wins that hands down. So yes, there are a few deputies that really like Riley, but they are the minority and there are a ton of them that don’t and they want him gone but won’t risk their jobs to speak out against him.

Your husband works there, not you and he probably does his time and goes home with no problems and does just the minimum. As far as other jobs in law enforcement, he can go anywhere with credentials and if he is a fine deputy like you say he is, then another agency won't care about what someone says about him, but what kind of impact he has made and work he has done unless he just sits on his butt and answers calls and check codes and is not motivated to do anything else. Or answers the desk phone and pawns work on others. Think about that, but we appreciate you being concerned for your husband and his career. She obvioiusly has a cry baby for a husband and she believes everything he says. As a deputy myself, I'm telling everyone that the only deputies not supporting Sheriff Riley are a handfull of under achieving idiots who expect to be handed everything without putting in the work. Every work place has those few, disgruntled people who will never be happy anywhere they work. Lady I feel sorry for you because you obviously are being snowed by your hubby and your falling for it. If he was really the wonderful law enforcement officer you portray him to be, he could go to work anywhere. But, he obviously isn't. End of story.

Do you know who else sticks together as a family? Organized crime. Coincidently, they refer to themselves as family. However, I’m not so sure the citizens of this county want a cohesive family unit in place at the Sheriff’s Office. I believe that most would prefer a strong leader and employees of that leader being lead. Keep in mind that even within the Sheriff’s Office only a small few are apart of the family, also considered the ‘clique’. And these outside of the family are being told in no uncertain terms that they are not welcomed. They are being told they should back Riley or leave. Last summer an article published by the Independent Tribune reported the violence that broke out at an outdoor pool party SEX orgy that was going on between Sheriff Rileys deputies. Thats not heresay..that was in the paper. Also the hiring of a topless dancer with Sheriff Riley's full knowledge is common knowledge at the Sheriffs dept. Too bad she was fired for having sex while on the job. Also the tazering of a suspect in a tree by Sheriff Rileys' under-trained deputies only to have Sheriff Riley to lie and say that this man (that was left a para-plegic)was trying to committ suicide.I dont think I need to go into more details except to say that the general public doesnt know about these incidents but they soon will.Let me also say that deputies see what happend when Sheriff Rileys predesessor(Canady) fired 5 deputies for political reasons lost in court but only got a hand-slaping by the court and a small fine which the county paid and not Canady. So what does Sheriff Riley have to fear?

Graham spent 90% of his time getting his supporters to find out who the deputies were that were supporting Riley by wearing T-shirts. To me as a citizen I feel Graham would abuse his power of Sheriff. I would also like to see a debate!

(they will certainly hate David Graham if elected...they HATE COPS) Animal Control however does have its own issues, and does need a revamping...but this was known a long time before JFB was even a topic. That is true because I am one of the people he asked that question to. That is really no big deal i think and may the better debater win or vote getter. Regardless whoever wins, they will have an uphill battle in cabarrus county as whoever is the leader will have to be trusted. The bottom line is, the deputies are the ones that keep the dept. afloat. If there were no deputies, there would be no dept. Think about that. Animal Control all over the US have the same problems we have here and will continue to. Why would anyone with half a brain vote for Brad Riley. The man has an arrest record, he cheats on his wife, he will blatantly lie to your face, he is very, very biased, he does not address the community on any issues. There are at least 2 to 3 huge lawsuits that will be facing the Sheriffs office due to his lack of leadership, one in which a man lost his use of his legs...HUGE LAWSUIT!!!!
And the only response to shooting a dog that has been hit by a car that the Sheriff came up with is that is his policy??? Shooting a wounded animal that could have been saved? That is just not right...As far as JFB goes...they support Graham not vice versa...but some of you just cant seem to figure that out, they posted a Response to the Bella incident that Graham wrote...they bashed Graham for not wanting to fire the officer. However, Riley did put a word out to a captain to find something to fire Austin on (true story)...and Graham is going to gain votes through them supporting him.....There page has 20,000 fans....a lot do live in Cabarrus County...several thousand at least. Most people like animals and would rather not see them shot...from pitbulls to chihuahuas...to wounded animals....God Bless You!!!

You know damn well that Riley is not going to let the independent tribune run anything negative about him...so why would you post such a ridiculous comment? Every one wearing a Riley shirt did not work at the sheriff office and you dont know what graham asked me or not unless you were in his back pocket. That girls name is Crystal Soper or something like that and you can probably find her on my space or something. But really who cares about her, if that child is really rileys she would have come forward regardless. I guess we can debate back and forth until election time but we are not the one's running for dept, so when riley wins again, then that will be it, but then Im sure you all will try to find something else to impeach him. I dont know about people giving up vacations to work that festival since im not part of the dept. and if that is true, who really cares? It was printed in the voters' guided in the Independent Tribune before the first primary election in April. (Riley declined to provide his platform for the Independent Tribune to print.) Instead of putting lies in Graham's mouth, why don't you ask him?

He has already stated that he would completely do away with the Community Policing Division at the Sheriff's Office and I'm sure that's just the beginning of what could happen to the deputies who have worked very hard and made a career at the Sheriff's Office just to have it taken away.

Everyone I know feels the same. The sherriff should worry about law enforcement not his reputation. How about concentrating on your job!

ReplyDeleteThis blog was not started by the sherriff but, by a hand full of disgruntled ex-employees, Ric Starnes, and of course Clyde Furr. They all know who they are. I can assure you that Sherriff Riley has not and will not ever lower himself to grace this site. Cabarrus County has one of the best agencies in this state. These deputies lay thier lives on the line eveyday to protect and serve the citizens of this county. The naysayers that started this sight have done so to try and tarnish the sherriff's reputation. However, they seem to have forgotten that he has lived here his entire life... people know him and have watched him grow up here. They have watched him serve this community way before he became sherriff. It did not start at election time but, as a young boy. He is man of integrity, a Christian, a family man, a community server, well educated and a great leader. The handful of people that started this site knows what it took to get themselves in trouble. It is almost as though they have taken their misfortunate situation and telling it as though the Sheriff has done those things. These naysayers know that our sherriff is well thought of by many and the only thing they have going for them is to try and tarnish his reputation. Thank you Brad Riley for being an out standing citizen and public servant.

She stuck by you while you had several affairs and a "love child" as you like to call it. Thank you for those last posts. This blog has gotten out of hand for sure and since it has been started it only has 7 followers so you know no one is listening to them. Look up this county on the web and see that it is one of the best agencies around in this state. Every agency has dead weight in it and then people start bashing the leaders. If those leaders offered you something tomorrow, you would not think twice about taking it, but if you do work for the dept. and are disgruntled, go somewhere else where the grass is greener if you feel that way about this agency. You won't and you know why? Because you know you have it made at the dept. but want more of something you havent earned. It's alright, instead you want a guy to come in the office and shake things up and you think you will get somewhere then? Nope, you will be in the same spot that you are in and eventually complain about him. You are one of those people that can't be satisfied anywhere in your career, at home and just in life so you have to start drama in other lives for you to function in yours. But I tell you what, Karma will come around to haunt you with the way you critisize the dept. and Sheriff along with the deputies that make up the dept. I feel sorry for you and your family, but meanwhile leave everyone else' life alone and work on your life!

ReplyDeleteIf Graham wins he is not firing anyone, I have heard him state it more than several times. And even if he was that kind of person (which he is not, he is actually one of the most humble men I have ever met)he cant do that with out being sued. All the deputies already know this. Riley started that rumor in at one of his meetings.
ReplyDeleteYou would no longer have a corrupt Sheriff if Graham wins. But Cabarrus County is the definition of the Good Ol' Boy system. So I am sure Riley will win, so all the people on here going crazy over the negative, yet mostly true, comments about the Sheriff should just calm down. And Riley is a wonderful politician.....which is definitely what we need as a Sheriff.
He actually doesn't have the qualification to be Sheriff. He was literally handed the job.
I find it to be funny that he has not led many, if any? investigation prior to being Sheriff. Its also funny that he was charged with assault in his 20's, a violent crime. Kinda scary if you ask me.

You dont know what misery is when you think that any day you can be fired when you go to work. The pressure is almost unbearable especially for our families.And its 100 times worse at election time.

A lot of postings on here are from deputies. That is a fact, and they certainly can not speak out against the Sheriff without being fired or some type of consequence, this is also a fact.

Why do you think the last guy that ran against Sheriff Riley dropped out?? I think his name was bradford...the Sheriff harassed him and his family until he could no longer take it. Bradford actually put an article in the paper saying that he did not want to run after it was to late, and he still got a third of the vote.

No one harassed that guy to drop out, he was unstable to run and yeah he got a third of the vote but what can you do. He wasn't even a good candidate to run against Riley, look at him now. Been busted for drugs and not in law enforcement and you wanted him as Sheriff? I give Mr. Starnes credit for sticking up for himself when his name has been used but everyone has a right to their own opinion whether its the truth or not. It all will come down to November and if Riley wins or when he wins, that should be the end of it, but we all know that it won't because there will be people that will be upset and the same goes for if Graham wins. I could care less who wins as long as they have the ability to effectively run Cabarrus County as a whole and with good sense. Is there ever really the right person to be a Sheriff? Who knows but whatever the vote will be, we need to honor it and move forward. I don't think any of the deputies are abusing powers or harassing people, but just doing their job and following direction of their superiors. Can you fault them for that? Yes, there are some rogue deputies, but a very small percentage that really doesn't effect much and eventually get weeded out. Pray for the county and it's leaders and keep the faith!

The deputies that work for Riley are not allowed to express their opinion publicly and you know this. They are forced to support him. And they are on this blog...many of them, and they are expressing their opinions....so deal with it. And the Sheriff did harass bradford...obviously he was not a suitable candidate, he had many personal issues, I know this, but Riley did have his deputies harass that man and his family.
ReplyDeleteThis go around he is running against stellar competition. Graham is actually much more qualified for the job. His resume makes Riley look like an amateur. What has Riley done in his career? What did he do before he became Sheriff? Has he arrested more people than the amount of times he has been charged with something? Should the Sheriff have an arrest record to begin with? I personally do not think so. Riley treats everyone with disrespect...from his deputies to the kids on his little league team. He is racist and sexist. I have seen him do horrible things...the most recent is telling a HR employee to throw away the resume of a black man...
A debate! That sounds like something the citizens of Cabarrus County would really benefit from. This way everyone will get to hear both candidates telling about their plans for the future, face to face, interacting with one another. Citizens that have not yet made up their minds will get to decide who should lead this county as sheriff. It is diplomatic and it is fair. Sadly enough this most likely will never occur. I’m sure Sheriff Riley’s political advisor has told him that with all the swirling accusations that this would be a political meltdown for him. It would be like putting the accused on the witness stand when there is a preponderance of evidence against him. It is a shame that as important as something like an election is, that we don’t get to interview the applicant. We get no application process, no mental evaluation, no polygraph testing, no oral board, or background investigation. All we get is an incumbent who rarely is heard from or seen. Yet we have to choose without the benefit of getting answers to our questions because the attorney leans over and whispers in the ear, ‘Don’t take the stand.’

ReplyDeleteNow for the deputy or the Sheriff himself, which every, you have obviously lost control. You are making outlandish comments, using profane langue, and just generally being ignorant. You have become quiet entertaining and the fact that you are scared makes it more humorous. You say you can’t wait for a debate so the Sheriff can show off what he has done as sheriff and that he has all this experience. This is great; the Sheriff has no experience except of making poor decisions. He was giving the position to start and has not had any competition since being in office. He has wasted taxpayers money, on the jail, staffing, lawsuits, etc…. Do I need to go on?
Next…as for the Sheriff being a racist, yes he is. I don’t know if he is trying to pull applications, but he does condone deputies that are racist. In my opinion that makes him one. An African-American deputy had called into the Lt’s office. Another deputy was in the office when he called in. Once the African-American deputy completed the call the racist deputy started making comments about the African-American deputy being married to a white female. The racist deputy did not know that the phone was not hung up completely and the African-American deputy heard everything. The comments became very explicit and racist. The Sheriff did nothing to this deputy. In my book this is being a racist by condoning it and not punishing him. Asking any deputy, this can be verified. This racist deputy is still there. He has done several things since then. Most departments would have fired him when he made the racist comments let alone the things he has done since then.
I really hope someone has an audit conducted on the entire sheriff’s office DCI terminals. If they are that sure that Sharon Wentworth is not a real person, it will show that the sheriff’s office is abusing their power by running her through DCI. This is also illegal. The SBI is the keeper of the records, maybe the will look into the matter.
Sheriff, how do you think that over the years of past bad decisions, wasting money, abuse of power, lawsuits, failure to take actions in regards to your racist deputy, your affair, and campaign violations make you a good candidate for sheriff? Those of working for you are tried and worn out trying to defend the Sheriff’s Office, but we hope for a change.

However, it is obvious that some people on this blog lack tact & the ability to research facts or know what a fact is for that matter. No one is perfect & everyone makes mistakes. Naming specific deputies is uncalled for, two of them helped me when I was the victim of a crime. May the best candidate win!

We happen to know that all you are doing is rubbing elbows with other sheriff's to strengthen to political power. If you cared less about yourself and more about this department and the employees you wouldn't be an absentee sheriff. What job in the world pays more than $90,000 a year and you rarely have to be at work? Make no mistake Riley is padding his possibilities. Losing is on his mind. We have heard it. Just ask. People feel self worth for supporting him. To know a 'celebrity' even in small form is to feel like YOU are someone. Please analysis the job performance. Be accountable. Make a change!
