After watching the news conference this past week featuring Cabarrus County Commissioner Chairman Jay White and Cabarrus County Attorney Richard Koch, I marveled at the focus, intelligence and professionalism of our unbiased, seekers of truth. I was amazed at what was on display. It is interesting in seeing after years of education, no doubt in political science, and what money in degrees, actually does for Cabarrus County. Let’s recap.
First we have Attorney Richard Koch with his ‘10 single spaced’ page report. Wow, how enlightening. So you, through a painstaking independent investigation, were able to clear the deputy. I think we all saw that one coming. In those 10 pages and one hour briefing you could have told us something we didn’t know. It is obvious that you could spend a couple of weeks reviewing the law to advise us that the deputy didn’t break it. Of course in the early 1800’s slavery was legal and women couldn’t vote. I would compare shooting Bella to law enforcement officers cheating on their spouses. It may not necessarily land them in criminal court. But let’s face it; it’s still not cool.
Chairman Jay White is a different story. He at least brought something to the table. Thank you Mr. White for the intricate explanation of the effects of a tranquilizer gun, what it can do to the body and how dangerous it can be. In contrast to say a ‘real gun’. You almost had me thankful he wasn’t trained to use it. I bet bank robbers wished the sheriff’s office only used tranquilizer guns. I, on the other hand am not. I am glad that there is an undeniable difference between the two.
And finally, where was the Sheriff? Was he golfing, traveling or hiding? Why wasn’t he invited to the party? Jeff Daniels had to be at his ‘court date’. Instead he has Mr. White and Mr. Koch ‘deferring’ questions to the sheriff who they know, good and well, has no interest in answering any of them.
Isn’t it obvious to everyone that this press conference did more to hurt Cabarrus County Government then it did to help them? To me this is the most obvious in the final scene when the only person doing their job was the young lady bailing our chairman and attorney out and putting an end to this CSPAN circus. It is my opinion that this county needs a revamp!

I find it odd that the county attorney, employed by Cabarrus County, hired to defend the county against allegations, civil actions, etc., is the one who conducted an independent objective review of the Bella incident? Read the report. His opinion is inserted over and over in the so called facts he established in the incident.
ReplyDeleteThe county attorney is not the person who decides whether criminal charges are justified. The district attorney is the person who reviews criminal investigations. The district attorney decides if and what charges should be filed in criminal cases, not the county attorney. Why has the district attorney not weighed in on the decision about criminal charges and whether the deputy should face criminal charges? Can anyone help explain this?
Bella rest in peace! And now get over this crap and quit trying to scam money from everyone to fund your survival Mr. Daniels. We all know you are a loser criminal from West Virginia and thats where you may need to go back to. Bella is dead and so is this topic in this county!

This topic will be going on for several more months if not another year. Or until the pathetic Sheriff we have finally addresses the community about it. I am not saying that JFB is in the right on this one, but the sheriff should address it either way. But does he ever address anything?

Its by far the best post that has been written on this much viewed blog. I would look for that to resurface many times, and in many different places.

ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to reforming Animal Control, keep in mind what Riley said, “I don’t think Animal Control needs to be reformed (Independent Tribune: May 27, 2010).” That means the gas chamber is appropriate and acceptable, lethal injection is not an option, eighty per cent kill rate is acceptable, exploring “No Kill” is not a viable option, and 181 out 187 cats euthanized in June is acceptable and just the cost of doing business. Is this mindset acceptable for our community or is it time to look in a different direction and get us out of the 1960s?
ReplyDeleteAnimal control is doing their job and following the laws put in place by the commission. However, they can only keep the animals for up to 72 hours (by law) If people like Daniel's who are complaining about things would use their time, efforts and money to open up or volunteer at the shelter to get these animals adopted out or fostered then a lot more animals would not be put down. Whether it is by a shot or gas chamber....bottom line is they die. So, Jeff get off your duff and help!!!! Also, get your facts straight.... In your so called 80 percent you have not figured in the animals that are adopted out by the humane society and the ones that the Cannon's group get out. The deputies at the shelter love animals and have all gotten dogs,cats,rabbits. It is not just a dog thing. I have rescued all of my animals. You are the obvious one that buys your Pitt bulls....have u ever thought about getting one at the shelter? I did not thinks so...in fact, you did not give three craps or even know the shelter existed until your dog was shot. That happened because you were an irresponsible pet owner. The dog was there with a child for several minutes, at least 5, before the neighbor came...so that is not correct at all. Never attacked anybody and was shot in the back....The shot in the back is where i have an issue. I HATE pitbulls but its hard to shoot something in the back...Then again Austin did not technically graduate from highschool so i can see where he might be a lil slow in figuring out what to do in a situation where he might actually get to use that GUN of his...which he should have never had to begin with.
ReplyDelete"No kill" is not a viable option. How would a no kill shelter be funded. I sure would not want my taxes raised to fund it along with many other residents of this county. Maybe people that has a problem with euthanizing dogs and cats needs to step up to the plate and volunteer or adopt, otherwise keep your mouth shut. ReplyDeleteRiley is so negative about the Bella group because he has had 10 years to address the problems at Animal Control and he has ignored all of the problems. He even said in May in the Independent Tribune that I don’t think Animal Control needs to be reformed. He has had a chance to address all the problems since May when all these problems started going public and did not. The sheriff knows the animal people have influence and is constantly putting them down because they are exposing him for what he has not done. Graham may not win the election, but after the election, these problems are not going away just because Riley has another four years to travel to the NC and National Sheriffs Associations at our expense. Check into Robson County and what happened there when they ignored the problems with their animal control agency. I hope that the county can afford the legal fees that are coming this way.
