Since 1976 political debates have been a much anticipated part of the election process. It is a format by which a candidate can express his views and differences from his counterpart. This process is not just a formality viewed by the citizens but is actually expected. What better way to see, hear, comprehend, process, relate and hear the plans and ‘promises’ of the ones who want to lead us? Imagine, a presidential election year whereby you do not get to watch a debate. How misleading could this be? To cast a blind vote in the direction of a ‘name’ would be claustrophobic to our government. A political debate is the citizen’s way of watching the candidates go through the interview and application process.
Sheriff D. Brad Riley as quietly asserted that he is open to a debate with challenger David Graham. It is time for our Sheriff candidates to agree to a forum and rules for a much deserved debate. We citizens expect nothing less than to see our two candidates asking and answering questions from the opposing candidate, debate narrator, and audience.
The forum and theme of questions should be no less than unrestricted, open history, both job and personal. Every application for any job asks for full work history, both present and past, information on past drug usage, financials, driving history, criminal history, and a full check of references, both work and personal. The objective is to get the best possible applicant. This should be no less invasive than the usual polygraph or oral board.
So Sheriff D. Brad Riley and Mr. David Graham, are you ready to rumble?

I would think the sheriff would what to show his strenghts. My son said that Riley is afraid of what would come out. He knows that he would look bad in the public eye. ReplyDelete1. Did you realize our tax dollars are paying for sheriffs deputies to work on Rileys campaign on duty? Ask a deputy, it's true.
2. Riley's marital affairs are well known.
3. Did you know deputies fear being fired for talking to anyone in favor of David Graham, which violate their first amendment rights. Again, ask a deputy.
4. Riley has kept the Sheriff's Office way behind the times in technology. Smaller departments are much more advanced.
-Citizens should be able to see crime maps so they know what is going on in the neighborhood. Riley doesn't want that because then you would know there is crime. He wants you to think your neighborhood is crime free.
Aren't we all tired of polititians and their empty promises and lies? Riley has proven his lack of values and integrity. It's time for a "leader" who is concerned with reducing crime and protecting the community.
Therefore KEEP SHERIFF RILEY 2010!!!

Did you know that he wanted to fire Deputy Austin after that Justice for Bella, Riley had no reason to fire him but told the captain to find something to ring this kid up on.....Turns out since Riley has no procedures or protocols when responding to a call he couldnt be fired, no procedures and protocols means his officers can do whatever they want....but yet if you mention David Graham in that department your life will be a living hell. There is only a couple handful of voluntary Riley supporters in this department. The rest are "forced" so to speak...

ReplyDeleteWhere was the "great leadership" in requesting the deputies to operate the new jail that is sitting vacant? Where was the "great leadership" in allowing deputies to have sex parties? Where was the "great leadership" in running an animal control department that has no protocols or regulations? Where was the "great leadership" when deputies are assaulting inmates? Where was the "great leadership" that has resulted in multiple law suits being filed against the county?
People post on here that they don't care about an old conviction, or about extra-marital affairs, but truly great leadership is set by example. Is this the example we want to be set for our county's deputies. Based upon some of their actions, this is exactly the example that has been set.
Our county deserves a truly great leader in the sheriff' office.
If you have the chance, talk to David Graham. He IS a great leader, and he is the right man for the job.

I feel sorry for Cabarrus County if Riley gets re-elected. I work for CMPD. Graham was very well respected by the officers and professional. I have never heard anyone talk bad about him. CMPD is a grant writing machine. Graham knows how to bring money into the sheriff's office through grants and asset forfeiture. Something you guys don't do now. CMPD builds new substations regularly with state of the art technology. Your new jail would probably be built and running.

Its fairly evident that Graham is a cop/leader and Riley is a politician with little knowledge of policing. His accomplishments/resume is pathetic compared to Graham's. Riley has not really accomplished anything. It sounded like to me he was handed the job from the previous Sheriff. The jail issue alone is enough to realize he is a waste of our tax dollars. And there seems to be many more issues at hand....

We definitely need a change, the sherriff seems like he is hiding about a lot of issues, never speaks out about anything. We need answers and he is not giving them for some reason or another. I wish I knew who posted that ugly lie about her!!!!!She is now fighting Mylemona, a life threatening cancer and this kind of stress she doesn't need or deserve just for voicing her right to her opinion.

ReplyDeleteI have been keeping up with this blog and have tried to stay out of this. But, when innocent citizens are slandered, I can no longer stay quite. I happen to know two of ladies that have been slandered and I am to put it mildly madder than hell!!!!! I am an attorney here and I have written the N.C. State Bar asking for a complete investigation into the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Department, including the District Attorneys Office. I only hope they can start an investigation soon. I wish them luck!!!!!!

Who would EVER dreamed what Jannette & I thought about any of this, would mean SO MUCH TO SO FEW!!!! After reading the hateful and hurtful comment about my twin sister just puzzles me?? WHY would ANYONE make fun of Jannette who is dying with Myeloma Cancer??? What kind of person is that??? It speaks volumes to me as to the very moral soul of anyone that write such. Ruthie is the thug. I'm sure her father in law was a great sheriff. All accounts are that he was. But that was 28 years ago, long before Ruthie came along. Robert Canaday was good. He ran things respectable. Riley runs this place like its the mob. Is this really what the citizens of this county want? This blog is the best thing we at the department have seen in a long while. ReplyDeleteI don't hold anything against honest hard working supporters of Brad. It's the ones who talk so big and have such slanderous comments that bother me and many others. In the beginning I was for Brad...I remember when he first came to work at the Sheriff's Department...and I thought highly of him and Brad knows that!! However, my opinion has changed and me and my family have been assaulted here and on Face Book by Brad's supporters. I didn't ask to be called a "drunk or High on something"...and to be slandered about my previous marriage to a LT. that used to work there. And the comments about my twin sister speak for themselves!! If Brad stays or goes..only November will tell the story. Until then,,this kind of malicious slander has to stop...someway..somehow. God help Cabarrus County...I truly pray that the good people of Cabarrus County get it right!!!

ReplyDeleteGOSH, I am truly amazed after all these comments that none of the Riley supporters will come to his defense when asked directly about certain issues. We want some answers, when are we going to get them? I would think that both men would be willing and anxious to debate each other unless one of them has something to hide????? I know a lot of people who were real supporters of Riley but since he has not spoken out about certain issues, they have decided to change their vote. Their question is the same, what is he hiding?
ReplyDeleteI just had a nice communication with David Graham and I have his permission to quote him. "I am willing to debate under one condition, no topic is off limits. Anyone can ask any question. We are interviewing for a job and therefore,our future employer, the citizens of Cabarrus County. They can ask us any question." David Graham This is where Mr.Graham stands on having a debate with Brad Riley. The one that won't debate is Brad Riley, not David Graham! Brad Riley has too much to hide to be wide open for questions. Citizens of Cabarrus County, you need to really do some soul searching and think before you cast your vote. We need a change in this county, we need a man in charge with some morals and background to run the Sheriff's Department in a manner we can be PROUD OF!

Mr.Graham sure has no hesitations or fear in having one with Brad Riley. I'll tell you who is afraid, it is Brad Riley, he has it all to hide. Hide his head in shame for starters! He is afraid to stand on his on two shaking feet and face us and answer direct questions. I know I have a few good ones of my own!!!!!! ReplyDeleteI just sent an email to the Tribune and told them if they couldn't get to the bottom of why Brad Riley won't debate David Graham, I was going to contact the Charlotte Observer and let them know what is going on in Cabarrus County. There are many, many, citizens that want answers and we can't get an answer from Brad Riley. WE WANT A DEBATE!!!!!!!! We all know why Riley is hiding out and running away from a debate and refusing to answer questions. Let all this get plastered all over the papers, I CAN ONLY HOPE!!!Brad you can run, but you can't hide forever!!!!I know I have many questions of my own I want answered by Riley. Have you see one answer from any of his supporters with some answers to any of the questions posted on this blog? NO YOU HAVE NOT!!!!!! He holds several degrees from UNCC.1976 graduated with a BS in Law Enforcement and Administration. 1997 graduated from UNCC Graduate Program with a Masters of Science in Criminal Justice, Police Management, Organization and Administration. 1981-1993 worked for Mecklenburg County Police Department. 1993-2009 worked for Charlotte Mecklenburg County Police Department as Deputy Chief of Police. He was responsible for overall operation of the Investegation Services Group, monitored and contolled a $22 million dollar budget, and oversaw 300 employees. These are his qualifications for the job!!!!! What's does Brad Riley have? PLEASE one of his supporters come to his defense and tell us Brad Riley's qualifications. PLEASE, WE ARE BEGGING FOR ANSWERS!!!!!! I know why Riley won't debate!!! Can't even answer simple questions right here!!! Come on FRIENDS....SEE WHAT WE'RE DEALING WITH!!

The personal attacks are just awful...shameful..I had heard about this blog..and seeing for myself that the rumors are true. Sheriff Riley is a well educated man. He is a graduate of ASU with a double major. He also has a masters degree in Adult education. He serves on many prestigious boards on a local, state, and national level. He has had more experience in his 20 plus years in law enforcement than most have in a life time. The sheriff's office has achieved may milestones, contrary to what the negative people on this blog say.
ReplyDeleteAlso, for the people that are saying that the sheriff will not debate; where did you get that information from? If you have any clue about politics you would know
that as the election approaches, and past history has shown, a reputable
organization will organize a debate. When that time comes he will be there.
Lastly, for those twin ladies that have appeared all of a sudden. I have known Sheriff Riley for a very long time, grew up with him. I can assure you that the sheriff has no control over what you referred to as his "supporters" wrote on this blog anymore than you can control what is said about him. Funny, you thought it was all cute and then your name appears and it becomes lies and slander. Has it ever appeared to you that this entire blog is lies and slander? I am sorry about your sisters cancer and will pray for her healing. However, the sheriff's father fought and survived the same cancer that she has. He also has a family member with terminal cancer right now. These folks on this blog do not care...they only want to destroy others. Shame on you for taking it personal for yourself but, not for him!
Regardless of the out come my friend and sheriff will be successful. He has a bright future ahead of him with lots of opportunity. For the rest of you......if it floats your boat just keep on slandering. Maybe, it will come back around to ya!!!

I would like to comment on the post regarding the "twins". What could they have possibly done to get you so upset, other than use their Constitutional Right of freedom of speech. I just met David Graham and had a wonderful talk with him while he put his sign in my yard!!!!!!!!!!! He tells me hundreds of his signs have been stolen, wonder who is doing THAT? I found them very disturbing to say the least and I was a Brad Riley supporter I'll have you to know. I had even contacted him for a sign for my yard! The only thing this blog did was make me stop and think about a man that I thought I knew! I found out I had really been fooled all these years and I changed my mind on where I stood in this election. When I made some comments to a friend on FB about all this, my name all of a sudden appeared and I was called some pretty terrible and disgraceful names. You said and I quote "you thought it was all cute and then your name appears and it becomes lies and slander." YOU BET WHAT WAS SAID ABOOUT ME WAS A LIE AND SLANDER! Are you a complete idiot? And how the fact that I have cancer got brought into this is just down right shameful and has hurt me very much. I am sure I know who posted all the lies about me and my sister, she knows I KNOW!!!! Leave us alone and you better concentrate on the election, from what I hear Riley should be worried.

Because it was NC A&T, because he is ashamed he was given a degree from an all black school? just like he is ashamed to be mentioned in the same sentence as our bi-racial president? I support Obama but not Riley. Why is he not proud to be a democrat? Think back to the Harrisburg Fair. No one politician was suppose to have a booth, yet the democrats devoted their entire booth to Riley, yet no where on that booth gave any hint of him being a democrat. That is when he lost my vote. Not saying I am voting conservative, but I am starting to look into his opponent. I have also came to realization that Roxanne will not support Graham, but Graham attempted support her during the Primary, only to be rejected. Another reason why I might vote conservative. Roxanne is useless and has no sense of taste...If she supports Riley I dont see how I can....
